What Drives OPEIM

Vision, Purpose & Mission

Our direction is grounded in a simple principle: technology creates value only when it is integrated with mature processes, capable people, and disciplined execution

Our Vision

A mining industry where technology, people, and processes operate as one integrated system to achieve operational excellence

Our Purpose

We accelerate technology adoption, strengthen operational processes, and develop organizational capability to maximize the value of every technology investment

Our Mission

We partner with our customers from Readiness — including the evaluation of the most effective technology and digitalization solutions — through execution and continuous improvement, helping them achieve higher levels of operational performance and efficiency

Technology alone does not improve performance Mature processes and disciplined execution do

Our Story

Founded on more than 28 years of global mining experience

OPEIM Partners was founded to give mining and resources operators direct access to senior-level operational excellence, mining technology, and performance improvement expertise, without the overhead of a large consultancy.

The firm's practice is built on more than 28 years of global mining experience spanning operations, technology, performance management, reporting, and business improvement initiatives — knowledge developed on the ground, not just in the boardroom.

OPEIM works alongside project and operations teams during the periods that matter most: the transition from construction into operations, and the continuous improvement work that follows.

What We Believe

Three principles that shape every engagement

01

Readiness is measurable

Readiness isn't a feeling — it's a set of tracked, governed milestones. If it isn't measured, it isn't managed.

02

Continuity beats onboarding

Operational knowledge compounds. OPEIM prioritizes long-term engagement over short-term handoffs, so context is never lost.

03

Improvement is a discipline

Performance gains made during commissioning only count if they're sustained. Continuous improvement is built in from day one, not bolted on later.

Director & Principal Consultant

Sergio Rojas

Director & Principal Consultant, OPEIM Partners Inc. Sergio is a global mining executive with more than 28 years of international leadership experience driving operational excellence, technical strategy, digital transformation, technology adoption, and enterprise performance improvement across Tier-1 mining companies worldwide — from underground and open-pit operations to concentrators, mine technology, and enterprise digital platforms.

He currently supports Operational Readiness, enterprise performance reporting, and digital transformation at South32, integrating engineering, operations, project controls, and analytics into the governance frameworks that carry a project from execution into sustainable operations. At Newmont, as Principal Advisor for Surface Operations, Sergio served as the corporate owner of surface mine technology and as a corporate leader responsible for the Time Usage Model (TUM), operational KPIs, and performance control, working in close coordination with Global Asset Management. His responsibilities included standardizing performance frameworks and operational routines across global surface operations. He also completed an acting Mine Control & Projects Superintendent assignment at Lihir, further combining corporate-level governance with hands-on operational leadership.

At Komatsu Mining Technology Solutions (Modular Mining), Sergio led the Performance Assurance (PA) program, creating and executing the global Mine Plan Compliance (MPC) process — built from concept through global deployment across the Americas, Africa, and Australia, generating more than US$6 million in consulting revenue and influencing capital investment decisions worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Earlier, as a Six Sigma Black Belt at Freeport-McMoRan, he led the company's first fleet management and HPGPS deployment at Tenke Fungurume, DRC, and delivered a payload optimization program that lifted CAT793 haul truck capacity from 216 to 240 tons — an estimated US$25M in value over five years. At BHP Billiton, he led Tintaya's transition from a manually operated mine to a technology-enabled, data-driven operation.

Over his career, Sergio has partnered directly with operations and executive teams at South32, Newmont, Komatsu, Freeport-McMoRan, BHP, Anglo American, Rio Tinto, Antofagasta Minerals, Vale, Glencore, Codelco, and Suncor. He holds an MBA in Finance from ESAN Graduate School of Business and a BSc in Mining Engineering from the National University of Engineering (UNI), along with executive education from MIT Sloan, PROSCI change management certification, and a Six Sigma Black Belt.
